Introduction
This unit introduces you to the Australian Curriculum: Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) for secondary students (Years 7-10) and the Tasmanian Assessment, Standards, and Certification (TASC) HASS-related curricula for senior secondary years (Years 11-12). You will design learning goals and lesson plans that employ inquiry-based learning methods alongside explicit HASS content instruction. You will learn about the nature of HASS as a school subject that bridges the critical perspectives of the humanities with the empirical investigation of the social sciences. Linking to contemporary learning theories, this unit focuses on preparing you to teach HASS curriculum topics and emphasises key HASS teaching approaches, such as source analysis in history and practical fieldwork in geography. Civics and citizenship and economics and business education will also be introduced as a precursor to further learning experiences in this learning area in EMT680.
