Introduction

In this unit you are introduced to the theory, pedagogical approaches, and practices of teaching Outdoor and Environmental Education (OEE) in secondary school (Years 7–10) through the Australian Curriculum (AC) and through the Tasmanian Assessment, Standards, and Certification (TASC) for senior secondary years (Years 11-12). This unit explores contemporary issues influencing OEE and examines diverse pedagogical approaches. The unit emphasises the cultivation of human–nature relationships, sustainability, socio-ecological justice, and health and wellbeing through OEE experiences. You will engage with key curriculum frameworks to prepare for designing, safely implementing, and evaluating OEE programs in secondary education.
