Science in Secondary Education unit (EMT537)

Introduction

In this unit you are introduced to the theory, pedagogical approaches, and practices of teaching Science in secondary school (Years 7–10) through the Australian Curriculum and the Tasmanian Assessment, Standards, and Certification (TASC) for senior secondary years (Years 11-12). You will explore the role of the teacher of science, including laboratory safety responsibilities, requirements and regulations. Lesson design, supervision of hands-on investigations, and demonstration skills will be explicitly taught during workshop sessions, and online learning activities will draw on current understanding of evidence-informed practices.
