Technologies in Secondary Education unit (EMT538)

Introduction

Technologies enrich and impact on the lives of people and societies globally. They can play an important role in transforming, restoring and sustaining societies and natural, managed and constructed environments. In this unit you will examine the technologies learning area of the Australian Curriculum and the Tasmanian Assessment, Standards, and Certification (TASC) Technology-related curricula for senior secondary years (Years 11-12). You will consider how the curriculum is taught in years 7-10 and 11-12 as you draw on contemporary learning theories to examine the process of planning, effective pedagogical practices and assessment of student learning. You will learn about the nature of technologies as a school subject as you study the two strands of the technologies curriculum: Knowledge and Understanding, and Processes and Production Skills. Creating sustainable solutions is a core concept and the focus of the technologies curriculum. You will develop expertise and specialisation, including knowledge and understanding, processes and production skills, in an area of growth focused on emerging technologies in education.
