Introduction

In this unit, you are introduced to the knowledge, skills and confidence required for safe participation in self-reliant outdoor journeys and environmental fieldwork. Learning experiences, including practical field trips, emphasise the development of safe practice, research skills, sound judgement, care for others, sustainability, and the ability for you to be self-aware and responsible for your own learning in outdoor environments. Students undertake place-based experiential learning with theories, models and concepts that provide the foundations for professional and personal practice in environmental fieldwork.
