Introduction

In this unit we will focus on the Literature Strand of the Australian Curriculum: English and build skills and knowledge for the teaching of language, literacy and literature in the primary school. Evidence based theory and research in Children’s literature ensures that leaners learn to develop vocabulary knowledge, reading fluency and reading comprehension skills and at the same provides an avenue for students to learn about their own cultural heritage and the cultures of other people. 
During the unit, you will explore the 4 sub strands of the Australian Curriculum (i) literature and context (ii) responding to literature (iii) examining literature and (iv) creating literature.

Learning Outcomes

• Critically examine theoretical concepts in Australia Curriculum: English - sub strand Literature.
• Examining literature, in particular features of literary texts and language devices in literary texts and how texts reflect the context of culture and situation.
• Demonstrate understanding of the theory of an MTSS framework, the direct relationship to evidence-based teaching practices and skill in how to practically implement tier 1 in the classroom.
• Apply your knowledge of pedagogical approaches to consider discipline specific texts and specific discipline literacies.
