The second assessment task will be submitted AFTER the students complete their 3rd year practicum, after the semester has completed.
This hybrid unit will meet online (MyLO) for the first two weeks, and then in the Inveresk campus teaching gym in week 3. This two week online followed by one face-to-face week schedule will repeat three more times for the 12-week semester.
Introduction
This introductory unit in inclusive physical activity prepares pre-service educators to meet the needs of diverse learners by requiring candidates to effectively demonstrate the application of pedagogical strategies to teach individuals with disabilities physical activity, the use of appropriate assessment strategies, and the ability to reflect on practice to improve their professional performance. Students will examine various types of disabilities to learn how to create developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for all of the individuals they may encounter in their professional life.

Teaching
| Teaching Pattern |
The online learning module workshops provide the theoretical and professional foundations for inclusive physical education. Students examine disability, participation, inclusion, behaviour support, assessment adaptations, legislative requirements, and evidence-informed teaching strategies. The modules prepare students to analyse learner needs, apply inclusive practices, and justify teaching decisions during workshops, professional experience, and assessment tasks. The gym workshop schedule provides practical, hands-on opportunities for students to experience, apply, and evaluate inclusive physical education. Through adapted activities, disability sport experiences, case studies, peer teaching, and activity modification challenges, students develop the skills and confidence required to design inclusive learning experiences for diverse learners. The final workshop prepares students for their practicum-based evaluation project through inclusion auditing and analysis of school-based practices. |
