Introduction

This unit introduces you to music and cultural expression in the Australian context. You will explore the breadth and distinctiveness of Australian music, investigate and discuss a diverse range of musical works, contemporary and historical, and create your own musical responses to given prompts. Gaining confidence with core academic skills including locating and acknowledging appropriate sources, and critical reading, writing and thinking, along with key musical terms and concepts, you will acquire a foundational knowledge of the styles, genres, motivations, traits and themes that can be found in the many facets of Australian musical culture.
