Introduction

This unit is an introduction to studio-based object design and making. It sets the foundations for designer makers to respond to a world undergoing rapid change. Directed by academic staff and technicians, you will design and make a cohesive collection of small-scale objects that critically respond to current and/or emerging contexts. Experimenting with techniques applicable to a range of materials, you will develop underlying technical, critical, analytical, conceptual and research skills relevant to contemporary object-based design practice. You will engage with design brief/s, lectures, demonstrations, studios, workshops, tutorials, discussion, or presentations that span historical, traditional, speculative, and theoretical realms, combined with current approaches to making and processes. Instruction and compliance to workplace health and safety (WHS) is fundamental to this unit.

Teaching Pattern	On Campus (Hobart and Launceston) Weekly Workshops (3 Hours) Plus an additional 7 hours engagement with unit content and self-directed learning per week
