2027 Unit information is now available. View 2027 unit information

Location: Hobart

Introduction

Sculpture and Time-Based Media 1 (STBM 1) explores the integration of objects and spatiality with electronic and time-based media to provide a platform for creative experimentation and expression. You are able to focus on a specific medium within this unit, focusing on sculptural responses to the set tasks, or exploring how the inclusion of moving image, sound, projection, and digital media with sculptural objects offers creative opportunities. You are encouraged to challenge yourself by experimenting with areas outside your experience and combine media to create your work across three thematic modules.

In STBM 1 you will engage in making and thinking through sculptural, electronic and duration-based modes, in ways that expand theoretical, conceptual and practical understanding of art practice. Staff and technicians will support and guide you to apply and experiment with these skills, and reflect on the outcomes, while engaging safe work practices. STBM is fundamental to installation practice which is a cornerstone of contemporary art.
