Introduction

Painting is a dynamic art form that continues to captivate both artists and audiences alike. This course is tailored to students with a keen interest in contemporary art and a desire to acquire the fundamental principles of painting. By engaging in this unit, you will gain an understanding of painting and its significance within the realm of visual culture. You will have the opportunity to delve into a rich historical background of this medium as well as explore innovative directions. You will work through a series of exercises and undertake two set projects, all under the guidance of experienced teachers who will introduce you to traditional methods as well as contemporary approaches in painting. These exercises and projects will equip you with essential skills that can be further developed and experimented with. Your learning experience will be enriched through critical discussions and contextual research, enabling you to broaden your artistic horizons. Workplace health and safety are paramount in any art studio. This unit will provide you with vital information to ensure that you can work safely and sustainably with painting media.
