Research Tools, Techniques and Methods unit (FSX407)

Introduction

his unit provides an in-depth exploration of research methods and methodologies tailored for students in the Creative Arts and Media disciplines. It is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake rigorous research, whether through a written thesis or a creative / practice project accompanied by an exegesis. Students elect to focus on two of the three modules in this unit on Qualitative, Quantitative and Performative Methodologies to identify the strategies and methods to direct their¿inquiry.¿¿ 

This unit is a core unit for students from diverse backgrounds in art, music, theatre, and media, fostering an interdisciplinary awareness of undertaking research in the Creative Arts and Media. Students learn to review the benefits and implications of research in, on and through their fields, identifying potential risks in research methods and risk management strategies as well as the potential benefits of their research to participants, audiences, and communities to map out a viable project design for their Thesis and Creative Arts and Media Practice Project units.¿
