Japanese Language 3A unit (HMJ315)

Introduction

This unit builds on Japanese 2A and 2B to consolidate the grammar, vocabulary and kanji foundation built during students' study at the beginner-intermediate level. In addition to focusing on developing students' ability to read Japanese texts (through kanji reading and writing practice as well as grammar comprehension), the unit also aims to expand students' speaking and listening skills and the socio-cultural knowledge needed for effective communication. Through use of the designated textbook, supported by selected supplementary materials, the unit aims to integrate the Internet and related technologies such as online dictionaries and reference guides into the language learning process. Students will be required to access online materials for self-study and classroom preparation in order to accelerate their learning, particularly of new kanji and grammar, and their project work. Emphasis will be given to equipping students with the skills necessary to become independent Japanese language learners.
