Introduction

Building on previous Japanese language study, this unit aims to develop students' oral skills and production skills both in spoken and written formats. Students will develop conversation skills beyond everyday life situations through group work with unit classmates as well as with native Japanese speakers where possible. Students will work across a range of language genre (polite to humble) and a selection of topics covered in the textbook. Students will conduct a project work to produce a summary report and an oral presentation in Japanese.

Learning Outcomes

  • Conduct a conversation in Japanese orally on a series of topics using various functions, including: stating one's opinions; making requests; complimenting; asking questions; explaining.
  • Deliver a speech or a brief oral presentation in Japanese.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of taught kanji, vocabulary, and grammar points
  • Expand vocabulary, expressions and cultural knowledge to discuss the topics covered in the unit.
  • Demonstrate research skills in Japanese as an individual and as a part of a team.
