This unit explores practical and theoretical concepts related to the governance, operations, and programming of a sport or recreation organisation. You will examine both leadership and management roles in the operations of sport and recreation organisations in professional and volunteer contexts. You will explore the internal organisational principles, practices, and structures of sport and recreation organisations to assess what good governance and strategy looks like in contemporary organisations. You will also examine planning processes, resource management, and innovative practice in the design and delivery of sport and recreation programs. In this unit you will 'team up' with a sport or recreation organisation to unpack the current state of the organisation to then recommend improvements to create a future state.

This unit introduces students to more complex learning experiences. You will be introduced to:
- discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. This will include authentic and purposeful, industry-related experiences
- concepts of managing effective relationships and communicating with others
- the development and use of adaptive leadership skills and how these skills relate to innovative and entrepreneurial practice
- the nature of responsible, accountable and reflective workplace skills, and creative and critical thinking relevant to para-professional practice.

You will exercise self-awareness, initiative and judgement to manage yourself and professional relationships effectively. The application of tacit knowledge and capabilities will be reflected in a Practice Manual.
