Design Aesthetics ZAD122

Introduction

In this unit, you will investigate elements and principles of visual language in art and design, to understand the importance of aesthetics in design and its application to real world projects. You will also be introduced to the nature of ‘aesthetics,’ including cultural and historical ideals of representation, perception, beauty and style.
Colour, pattern, form, shape, texture, space, line, balance and the principles of Gestalt are just a few of the many factors you will be exposed to. You will learn to observe and evaluate how these factors impact on social relations (e.g. fashion, media, food and entertainment), the ideal of beauty and human experience of the built environment (e.g. interior and outdoor spaces).
