Introduction
Through integrated lectures and tutorial/practical sessions you will be introduced to key contemporary, historical, philosophical and cultural debates related to the visual arts. You will be guided through ways to connect these debates to creative practice.
The unit will explore the interrelationship between ideas, discussion, making and writing in relation to a range of cultural thematics. You will be asked to consider a variety of perspectives on these topics through combined writing and practical tasks. You will also engage in different ways (writing, presentation, making, critique and reflection) to contextualise and extend your own creative projects through critical enquiry. The unit will introduce writing as both a mode of creative expression as well as critique.
A variety of assessment tasks will bring together reading, writing and making to facilitate the productive links between these modes of creative communication.
