Drug Discovery, Development and Delivery CSA327
Introduction
This unit covers fundamental features and current methods involved in the drug development process. The unit emphasises on lead identification, lead optimisation and the introduction of new drugs into clinical practice. It deals with specific case studies that examine real drug discovery projects and how a range of drug design techniques are applied in each case. Novel drug delivery systems (e.g., recombinant DNA technology, liposome, gene therapy, monoclonal antibodies etc.) are also covered in detail. In addition, the study of chemical structure as a determinant of both the physicochemical properties and biological activity (including metabolic fate) of drug molecules of both synthetic and natural origin are also covered in detail.
