Innovation in Medicine Safety CSA328

Introduction

Innovation in Medicine Safety builds on the knowledge and skills gained in CSA288 Evidence Based Health Care and CSA321 Clinical Pharmacy Research. Topics covered in this unit will help students identify medicines safety issues, undertake a critical review of pharmacist-led quality improvement interventions to inform the development of similar interventions, and establish appropriate outcome monitoring and maintenance of the intervention quality. Students will initially work in groups to appraise pharmacist-led interventions to improve the Quality Use of Medicines, including their enablers and barriers. This information will be used to inform a pitch for funding to support a pharmacist-led intervention. Later in the course, students will undertake individual work to design a multidisciplinary quality improvement intervention under a current funding initiative.
