Clinical Chemistry 2 CXA352
Introduction
The purpose of CXA 352 is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to conduct and interpret laboratory analyses in the areas covered in the curriculum. An important part of the unit involves contextualising quality assurance in diagnostic laboratories for all disciplines of Laboratory Medicine. This unit continues on from CXA 251, Clinical Chemistry in preparing students for a role as clinical biochemists in the modern pathology field. The unit CXA 352, Clinical Chemistry 2, is designed to impart a thorough knowledge of:
• enzyme analysis, clinical enzymology and enzyme assays currently used in the diagnostic laboratory
• the interpretation of test results in the diagnosis and monitoring of liver, muscle and cardiac disorders
• analysis of proteins by electrophoresis and interpretation of SPE analysis
• the pathophysiology and the role of the diagnostic laboratory in assessment of carbohydrate metabolism, iron status and lipid status.
