Engineering Professional Practice unit (JEE494)

Introduction

This unit provides students with practical engineering experience in a professional workplace and improves awareness of working within a professional engineering environment. This ensures the students perceptions of engineering during academic studies develop alongside the realities of practice. This unit provides the opportunity for students to reflect on their studies to date and how they translate to real world practice. Important note: Students are responsible for identifying and negotiating their own work experience arrangements. The advantage of doing some experience between 2nd and 3rd year is that you are yet to choose your specialisation. Use that to your advantage by exploring various types of maritime engineering if possible. You are expected to show independence and responsibility in your assigned work tasks throughout your 12 or more weeks of engineering professional practice. You will have enough academic grounding and experience to contribute in a positive manner to the engineering design and problem-solving processes within the work environment. An ability to work under supervision, with complex work-related concepts and problems should also be demonstrated.
