Introduction
Students gain sufficient knowledge and skill as detailed in Section A-VI/4 para 4 through 6, and Table A-VI/4-2 of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers to manage the medical care of sick or injured persons on board ship.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify contemporary clinical examination techniques to ensure the delivery of correct and appropriate medical care to sick or injured persons.
- Identify common types of disease and infection.
- Identify and apply suitable treatment to other medical conditions.
- Administer pharmaceutical medication or drugs in accordance with manufacturers advice.
- Maintain correct medical records of all sick or injured persons.
- Use ships radio to seek out external medical assitance.
