Communicating Research unit (XGR502)

Introduction

Communicating Research introduces principles of academic writing, referencing and broad presentation skills to PhD and Masters candidates to higher degrees by research (HDR) training at the University of Tasmania. This unit will focus on a range of topics including: managing and reviewing the literature, presentation skills (for conferences, seminars, discussions and poster presentations), principles of academic writing (developing responsible writing skills, structuring extended writing, technique and writing style and incorporating the work of other scholars into your writing) and preparing research results for publication. The unit will be taught via two days of block teaching (online, face-to-face, via Zoom) and assessment tasks will focus on meeting key objectives required for confirmation of candidature. Attendance at the face-to-face Zoom classes is mandatory. XGR502 is a core unit of the Graduate Certificate in Research. It introduces a range of topics that will be developed further in the remaining units of the course.
