Introduction

In this unit you will affirm the importance of employing a systems-based approach to healthcare in the management of major incidents and multi-casualty situations. You will further develop a systematic approach to trauma assessment and care of emergent patients and refine and integrate current knowledge, clinical reasoning, ethical considerations, patient communication and critical thinking in the context of patients experiencing a severity range of injuries or illnesses following trauma or environmental exposure. Attendance and active engagement are important in gaining the required level of understanding and clinical practice. This unit requires significant participation as part of the learning process.
