Optimising Respiratory Physiology in Critical Care unit (CAA604)

This unit has some clinically focused elements that explores advanced airway management and specific surgical interventions. The opportunity to experience and practice specific critical care skills is provided in an optional 3-day intensive workshop. The workshop is delivered at the University of Tasmania Hobart Campus. The number of students able to attend is capped and is at the students own expense.

 

Introduction

This unit develops advanced knowledge and applied skills for airway, oxygenation and ventilation interventions to support patients with acute or complex medical or trauma emergencies and in the critical care and retrieval setting. Clinical skills teaching will scaffold from theory to practice using simulation or cadaver-based education models in an optional three-day practical intensive.  You will further develop your clinical reasoning and decision-making skills, incorporating the principles of advanced pharmacology, contemporary evidence-based advanced clinical care, and ethical considerations for providing systematic, safe and effective critical care.

Independent learning - Self-directed learning. Online learning materials and discussions. Asynchronous learning online requiring 8 hours contact time per week

Workshop (On Campus, Hobart) – Optional on campus attendance to a 3-day intensive workshop in Week 11 of the Semester. 8-hours teaching per day
