Advanced Topics in Community and Public Health Approaches to Dementia unit (CAD704)

Introduction

As an advanced student studying community and public health approaches to dementia, this unit develops your critical thinking and deeper evaluation of research. You will join a peer critique group to examine articles in domains of particular interest. Papers are selected to evaluate in an online journal club environment, with input and guidance from academics experienced in the field. You will then propose individual topics in public health responses to dementia rehabilitation, prevention, risk reduction, awareness or friendliness relevant to your professional and/or personal interest, undertake a critical literature review and evaluation, and design a public health initiative.

Learning Outcomes

• Critically analyse national and global public health and research initiatives for dementia support and dementia risk reduction
• Synthesise published reports to evaluate public health initiatives relevant to dementia support and dementia risk reduction.
• Design multi-strategy public health initiatives in dementia rehabilitation, prevention, risk reduction, awareness and/or friendliness, with consideration of social determinants and health equity.
• Develop plans for initiatives including budgets, human and enabling resources, evaluation of impact and outcomes, and partnerships with key stakeholders such as people living with dementia.
