Introduction

This unit aims to provide a broad understanding of the key leadership functions of organisational and clinical governance, and risk management within health and human services.  These concepts have grown in significance across health and human services - driven by the need for assurance from the public, providers, funders, accreditation agencies, and governments, that services are delivered safely and that they meet organisational and quality standards.

This unit begins with an introduction and overview of the concepts of governance, risk and risk management, including relevant conceptual and theoretical frameworks. You will explore the practical implementation of governance and risk management frameworks and strategies with an emphasis on real-world application of best practice, empowering you to lead initiatives and to drive positive change in your workplace by fostering a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement. You will be challenged to reflect on your own professional practice and leadership capacity, as you  gain insights into how effective governance and leadership approaches can shape the rapidly evolving health and human service landscape.
