Community Safety Partnerships and Prevention Design unit (CPS203)

Location: Online

Introduction

This unit introduces you to collaborative approaches for harm prevention and improving community safety in public safety contexts. This unit examines the design, governance and evaluation of collaborative prevention initiatives intended to improve community safety, public health and wellbeing outcomes. You will explore how government agencies, public safety organisations, health services, local authorities, residents and community stakeholders coordinate resources and responsibilities to prevent harm and address complex social issues. Emphasis is placed on interagency governance, service integration, public sector accountability, prevention planning and outcome evaluation. You will apply evidence-informed approaches to analyse community safety needs, develop partnership-based responses and assess their effectiveness in achieving sustainable improvements in safety, resilience and community wellbeing.

As part of your work in this Unit, you will see how prevention-focused solutions are central to achieving longer-term outcomes. You will examine how such outcomes can rely on shared responsibility, coordinated action and genuine collaboration across the public safety landscape. You will apply problem-solving methods to a community safety issue, moving from community and risk analysis to partnership development, intervention design and evaluation.
