Problem-Oriented Policing and Evidence-based Public Safety unit (CPS304)

Location: Online

Introduction

This unit explores how public safety professionals can systematically address harm, risk, crime, disorder, and vulnerability through problem-oriented and evidence-based practice and dedicated analytical instruments. Building on principles developed in the areas of problem-oriented policing and evidence-based policing, you will examine how research evidence, intelligence, data analysis, community engagement, and partnership approaches can be used to understand and respond to complex public safety challenges. You will learn to identify and apply established problem-solving models to address the underlying causes of some select public safety problems, develop targeted responses, assess effectiveness, and support continuous improvement. The unit promotes a proactive, preventative, and evidence-informed approach to creating safer and more resilient communities.
