Introduction

This unit enhances your core threshold learning in occupational therapy process and practice, with attention to skills in task, activity, occupation analysis, grading and occupational adaptation.  You will delineate the use of occupation as means and end to achieve performance and participation outcomes and learn how to develop top down / bottom-up approaches to therapy planning and outcome measurement. You will analyse the relationships between occupational performance, participation, and sustainable occupational wellbeing.  These foundation skills are applied in all occupational therapy contexts and practice settings.  Using domains of occupation as a focus, you will develop professional knowledge and attributes that enable you to consider occupation in its dynamic transactional relationship with people across the lifespan and from different cultural identifications and environments.

• Analyse factors that facilitate or constrain performance and safety for participation in daily life using principles of occupational analysis, grading, adaption and Person Environment Occupation goodness of fit.
• Analyse and apply the occupational therapy practice process to enhance occupations performed in workplaces, education settings, community, leisure, and home settings.
• Use clinical and therapeutic reasoning to formulate evidence-based interventions to enhance occupational performance or promote participation and well-being by occupational adaptation, and developing or restoring personal skills.
• Analyse the relationships between occupation, participation, and wellbeing through a cultural lens, including Aboriginal and First Nations People ways of knowing, being and doing.
• Critically reflect, using principles of sustainability, to strengthen resilience in self and other for occupational wellbeing across the lifespan.
