Neurological Physiotherapy unit (CXA740)

Introduction

This unit consolidates knowledge and skills related to professional practice issues and communication in physiotherapy. The unit retains the focus on client assessment, planning and interventions using a clinical reasoning approach. Physiotherapy approaches are studied in relation to prevention, management and maximisation of client potential and the application of a client-centred and evidence-based approach to direct client interventions. Students will develop physiotherapy clinical skills and knowledge for the evaluation and management of neurological conditions

Learning Outcomes

• Describe the aetiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical presentation of common neurological disorders.
• Justify the physiotherapy assessment and management of people with of common neurological conditions.
• Apply critical self-reflection and the attributes of lifelong learning, and inquiry and relate them to multidisciplinary neurological practice and ongoing professional development.
• Explain the safe and effective medical and multidisciplinary management of people with neurological conditions, including medication management.
