Introduction
English for Academic Purposes 1B is the second half of the 10-week English for Academic Purposes level. It continues to develop students’ English language ability while introducing them to the skills necessary to function effectively in an Australian learning environment. The language component of the unit builds listening, reading, speaking, writing, and vocabulary skills and consolidates grammar learnt at earlier levels. The academic skills component of the unit introduces students to the processes and tasks used in Australian educational settings.

- Listen strategically and actively to comprehend information, ideas and arguments in discussions, news reports, educational and promotional materials, presentations and short lectures.
- Write paragraphs and short essays using appropriate vocabulary, accurate grammar and sentence structure, and the conventions of academic English.
- Use critical thinking and study skills in tasks relevant to an Australian learning environment.
