Introduction
This 5-week General English unit is the second half of a 10-week Pre-intermediate level component which aims to build students English language level. This course develops listening, reading, writing and speaking skills as well as grammar and vocabulary on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life. Within a communicative and interactive classroom environment, the unit focuses on language competencies in - functional language for spoken interactions to ask for information, give instructions, ask for and give opinions, give a talk, make comparisons and recommendations, and make a complaint; - comprehending reading and listening texts on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life, and; - writing form filling, informal and formal emails, applications and discursive paragraphs; - using level B1 grammar and vocabulary accurately and appropriately. Student language acquisition is checked against the Common European Framework Reference for Language B1 Checklist of competencies.

Learning Outcomes
- Speak on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life using appropriate vocabulary and grammar accurately at a CEFR B1 level.
- Read and comprehend information and ideas of texts on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life at a CEFR B1 level.
- Listen to and comprehend information in clear standard speech on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life at a CEFR B1 level.
- Write letters, emails and short texts of up to 150 words on topics that are familiar, of a personal interest and related to everyday life using appropriate vocabulary and grammar accurately at a CEFR B1 level.
