Hobart
Introduction
This is the first 5-week unit of a 10-week general English level at an intermediate level aiming to build students English language level. This course develops listening, reading, writing and speaking skills as well as grammar and vocabulary on a range of topics including abstract ideas that are of a personal and professional interest. Within a communicative and interactive classroom environment, the unit focuses on language competencies in - functional language for spoken interactions to ask for and give opinions, change arrangements, give a talk, ask for clarification and repetition, make a complaint, and make comparisons and recommendations; - comprehending reading and listening texts on a range of topics including abstract ideas that are of a personal and professional interest; - writing professional emails, narratives, opinion paragraphs, advantage and disadvantage essay, and changes and differences essay, and; - using level intermediate-level grammar and vocabulary accurately and appropriately. Student language acquisition is checked against the Common European Framework Reference for Language B1+ Checklist of competencies.

- Listen to and comprehend information and ideas in clear standard speech on topics that are of a personal and professional interest at a CEFR B1+ level.
- Write letters and texts of up to 200 words on topics that are of a personal and professional interest using appropriate vocabulary and grammar accurately at a CEFR B1+ level.
