Hobart
Introduction
This is the first 5-week unit of a 10-week general English level at an upper-intermediate level which aims to build students English language levels. This course develops listening, reading, writing and speaking skills as well as grammar and vocabulary on a variety of topics of personal and professional interest. Within a communicative and interactive classroom environment, the unit focuses on language competencies in - functional language for spoken interactions to give opinions and try to change other’s opinions, re-tell a story, give impressions and reflect on events, give solutions to a problem, and make predictions on future events; - comprehending reading and listening texts on a variety of topics of personal and professional interest; - writing emails of complaint, opinion essays, articles of advice, data descriptions, reviews, and reports, and; - using upper-intermediate level grammar and vocabulary accurately and appropriately. Student language acquisition is checked against the Common European Framework Reference for Language B2 Checklist of competencies.

Learning Outcomes
- Speak and develop logical arguments on topics that are of a personal and professional interest using appropriate vocabulary and grammar accurately at a CEFR B2 level.
- Read and comprehend ideas and arguments in texts on topics that are of a personal and professional interest at a CEFR B2 level.
- Listen to and comprehend concrete and abstract ideas in standard dialect on topics of personal and professional interest at a CEFR B2 level.
- Write formal letters and detailed texts of up to 250 words on topics that are of personal and professional interest using appropriate vocabulary and grammar accurately at a CEFR B2 level.
