Introduction
Steel and Timber Structures focuses on the design and analysis of structures using steel and timber materials. Students will learn about the properties and behaviour of these materials and the principles of structural design and analysis. The unit covers topics such as load-bearing capacity, structural stability, and material selection. Through theoretical lectures and practical exercises, students will develop the skills to design safe and efficient steel and timber structures. The unit is an introduction to steel and timber structure design to Australian design standards. The aim is to prepare students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design, construct and supervise structural engineering projects. The unit also emphasises the importance of sustainability and the use of renewable materials in structural design.
