Introduction
This unit covers the principles and practices of water and wastewater engineering, equipping students with the knowledge to ensure safe, sustainable, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Key topics include water quality assessment, regulatory compliance, treatment technologies, effluent disposal, and resource recovery. Students will explore the modelling of treatment processes, evaluate pumping and distribution networks, and apply modern sustainability frameworks to system design.
Through lectures, tutorials, and practical exercises, students will gain authentic experience in evaluating and managing water related systems and environmental impact mitigation strategies. The unit integrates climate-safe principles, ensuring infrastructure is resilient to changing environmental conditions, water scarcity, and pollution challenges.
Students will develop technical, analytical, and evaluation skills through weekly problem-solving exercises, assessments, and a capstone design project, ensuring they are work-ready for careers in water and environmental engineering.
