Introduction
The units overlays a formal environmental engineering framework to environmental and sustainability topics and shows how the traditional design process can be extended to include these issues. The aim is for students to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to identify potential environmental risks and opportunities associated with projects, undertake the basic design of environmental engineering solutions, and evaluate their effectiveness. This unit covers principal environmental engineering design areas, including air quality, geo-environmental, solid waste management, water supply, water and wastewater treatment, and resource recovery.

- Identify environmental risks associated with engineering projects in order to propose mitigation measures.
- Design elements of geo-environmental, water supply, wastewater treatment, and air pollution control systems with a focus on system suitability, feasibility, and sustainability.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of Environmental Engineering solutions in the context of design, sustainability, monitoring, control and remediation.
