Introduction
Electrical Machines and Control focuses on electrical machines, control and automation systems for mechanical engineering applications. Principles of electric machines are considered in the context of actuation of systems, electric power generation and integration with mechanical systems, with emphasis on types of machines, performance models, operational characteristics and mechanical applications. Control concepts are applied along with tools for control system design and analysis. Automation system hardware and software systems are explored with practical system implementation. Assignments provide opportunity to research, develop, evaluate and document electric-machines based control and automation solutions incorporating system design, performance and sustainability considerations. By the end of the unit, students will be able to develop electrical machine based control and automation systems for mechanical engineering applications.
