Introduction

In this unit students' design and teamwork skills are developed to a professional engineering standard through a series of design projects dealing with different aspects of mechanical and mechatronic design with a specific focus on manufacture.

Learning Outcomes

• Propose concept solutions that capture implicit and explicit performance requirements for a mechanical design brief.
• Evaluate a preferred design against a design brief and identified performance criteria, including sustainability, using relevant engineering theory, computational techniques and simulation tools.
• Validate the final design by presenting a physically manufactured or virtual prototype.
• Document a designed product for manufacture and assembly through fully dimensioned and detailed engineering drawings prepared using CAD software and supported.
• Manage a design project using systematic and professional processes within an authentic team environment.

Teaching

Teaching Pattern	Teaching will consist of weekly 2-hour classes in the design office, and 2-hour classes in the computer lab.
