This unit is available to students undertaking Co-operative Education in a BE programme in NCMEH only.
Introduction
In this unit you will develop practical skills that will assist you to communicate with technical staff and tradespeople in the maritime industry. You will apply a range of engineering techniques while gaining the necessary skills to safely and efficiently command, and operate the engines, of small vessels by completing a Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswains Grade 1 Near Coastal). You will develop the practical skills of coastal navigation and seamanship using a range of vessels and engineering practicals. You will also undertake practical firefighting and survival training to provide you with an understanding of skills required for safety at sea. You will reflect upon the grown of your skills in the application of maritime engineering techniques in the form of a reflective logbook. This unit will provide valuable insight into the application of the technical knowledge obtained during your first year and a skillset that aids communication with vessel tradespeople and operators during future work terms.
