This unit is available to students undertaking Co-operative Education in a BE programme in NCMEH only.
Introduction
All 5 work terms have a minimum requirement of 12 weeks engineering professional practice. Those work terms that back on to each other can be completed continuously with the same company. In fact, all work terms could be completed with the same company although it is advisable that you obtain experience from different employers as this will make you a better graduate with broad experience. Throughout all work terms you will be required to monitor your progress with a logbook on the understanding of stage 1 engineering competencies as set out by Engineers Australia. The great thing about JEE147 Work Term 2A and JEE148 Work Term 2B is that they are undertaken before you choose your specialisation. Use that to your advantage by exploring various types of maritime engineering if possible. You are expected to show independence and responsibility in your assigned work tasks throughout your first 24 weeks of engineering professional practice. You will have enough academic grounding and experience to contribute in a positive manner to the engineering design and problem-solving processes within the work environment. An ability to work under supervision, with complex work-related concepts and problems should also be demonstrated.
