Introduction
The design and analysis of engineering fluid systems and marine vehicles require the prediction of the fluid behaviour and the interaction between the fluid and the system. This requires a good knowledge of thermo-fluid dynamic principles and the behaviour under varying boundary and operational conditions. This unit introduces students to numerical methods used to solve applied maritime hydrodynamics, fluid dynamics and thermo-fluid dynamics problems. It includes the use of commercial CFD packages and the analysis of results and flow visualisation to investigate the flow and behaviour of the fluid system or marine vehicle. It builds on the knowledge gained in Fluid Dynamics and relevant mathematical concepts.
