Introduction
This unit provides you with learning opportunities to develop foundational knowledge in railway control systems through engagement with safety engineering principles, dependability frameworks, and control system management. You will experience systematic analysis of how Safety Integrity Levels, interlocking systems, train separation methodologies, signalling layouts, and automation approaches differ across metro and mainline contexts, progressively building an integrated understanding of how these elements create robust railway operational environments. These learning experiences prepare you to evaluate system dependability, specify operational functionality, and analyse complex railway control systems within specific operational contexts, establishing the technical and conceptual foundation required for higher-level system evaluation, design specification, and safety analysis.

Note
Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
