Principles of Railway Control Systems - Signalling the Layout unit (JEE563)

Location: Online

Introduction

This unit develops your understanding of railway control systems principles, building upon safety and systems engineering foundations. You will explore safeworking systems, including signalling, train order, and token systems, and examine the operational principles of different types of wayside signalling, Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), and European Train Control System (ETCS). Through practical application of signalling design principles, you will gain experience in developing scheme plans, conducting risk assessments, and producing design outputs, including time-distance graphs and headway calculations based on operational requirements, rolling stock characteristics, and infrastructure constraints.

Note

Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
