Introduction
This is the second of two sequential capstone units. Its prerequisite is Capstone Design Project A.
You will work as part of an engineering team on the railway control systems challenge set by your industry partner in Capstone Design Project A. Building on the approved project proposal, you will refine and justify an engineering solution that addresses stakeholder, operational, safety, regulatory, environmental and community requirements. You will manage the delivery of the project, taking into account its interfaces with adjacent engineering disciplines. You will produce professional technical documentation and present and defend your solution at an industry showcase attended by railway engineering professionals and academic experts.
Through this work you will synthesise and apply advanced learning from across the programme, including systems engineering methodology, safety-critical design principles, regulatory compliance frameworks, and specialised railway control systems knowledge. Projects may address challenges such as signalling system modernisation, train control technology integration, telecommunications network design, safety management system development, performance optimisation studies, or implementation of emerging technologies. The project scope, requirements, concept selection, and preliminary design are completed in Capstone Design Project A.
