Data Analysis and Presentation unit (JFA207)

Introduction

JFA207 Data Analysis and Presentation builds upon your first-year units that include data analysis and presentation. The emphasis in this unit is on training you to be literate in data presentation and statistical analysis so that you can effectively communicate data and statistical outputs to both “consumers” and “producers” of data. At the conclusion of this unit, you will be able to critically assess, understand, and use qualitative and quantitative data that has been collected, analysed and presented by scientists from a range of disciplines, including, marine ecology, fisheries, management and governance. This will be achieved by providing you with a conceptual understanding of types of data, data visualisation, and the methods of data analyses commonly used by scientists. Given the type of question asked and the data collected, by the end of this unit you will be able to present and communicate data/information using statistics as a tool.

Teaching

Teaching Pattern

Weekly for 12 weeks, 1 h tutorial, 3 h computer-based practicals, combined with online lectures and material. All students are expected to attend tutorials and pracs face-to-face - attendance is compulsory and will be recorded on a weekly basis.
