Introduction

This unit provides students with a good understanding of individual sectors in the maritime industry. It introduces the maritime industry’s history, maritime geography and the concept of maritime transport in facilitating international trade. This unit covers various maritime sectors such as shipping, shipbuilding, repairs and maintenance, ports, offshore energy, maritime tourism, maritime governance and defence and Law enforcement. Finally, key contemporary issues related to the maritime industry are addressed.
