Introduction

This unit provides you with a broad appreciation of the nature and importance of logistics activities, and introduces you to the most important concepts, principles, tools, and analytical skills used by logistics managers. It enables you to understand the key components of an integrated logistics system, such as procurement, inventory management, transport, warehousing, and customer services, whilst viewing the system synergistically. Central to an integrated logistics system is the customers: by studying the trade-offs between customer services and costs discussed in this unit, you will be able to contribute positively to the logistics management activities in any organisation.

Teaching

Teaching Pattern	On-Campus:  Weekly 2-hour lectures and weekly a 1-hr tutorial. Attendance in tutorials is mandatory. Off-Campus: on-campus lectures and tutorials will be stream lived to distance students. Recordings for lectures and tutorials can also be assessed by both on-campus and distance students.
