Introduction

Procurement plays a pivotal role in supply chains by acting as the bridge between an organization and its suppliers, ensuring that the right materials, services, and products are sourced efficiently and cost-effectively. JNB637 Strategic Procurement Management provides an in-depth exploration of key concepts, practices, and strategies essential for effective procurement within modern supply chains. The Unit covers critical topics including sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, matching supply with demand, procurement in different context, negotiation and contract management, outsourcing, offshore procurement, and measuring procurement performance. Special emphasis will be placed on contemporary issues such as sustainable procurement practices, procurement in a circular economy, and the advancements brought by Procurement 4.0 technologies. Through case studies, practical exercises, and interactive discussions, students will gain the skills necessary to navigate complex procurement environments and drive value creation within organizations
